Abstract In 1792 foreigners flocked to France participate in the new republican regime, redefining nation as conduct of popular sovereignty. A number American, British, and Irish formed a club Paris, Society Friends Rights Man (Société des Amis Droits de l'Homme), among whom republicans were key component. Eager “revolutionize” Britain Ireland, they contributed rise tensions and, ultimately, outbreak war between Britain. The author argues that these Irish, because their colonial experience, crucial factor redefinition opposition British imperial French models citizenship. Their defense cosmopolitan citizenship ideal was violently rejected severely tested by “Terror” France.
